The Warlords of Afghanistan
The Warlords of Afghanistan are pretty well covered in this oddball website, and as for the warlords themselves, they are a glimpse into another age.
We live in a society crammed shoulder to shoulder with others, careful not to offend, concealing our ambitions, publicly mouthing pious opinions about how drugs are bad, church is good, and pretending we have freedom. The warlords are a fascinating contrast; contemporary versions of Robert Guiscard, Jesse James, Al Capone, and many other freebooting scallywags from our own past. They are amazingly resilient, lurking in the hills when defeated, waiting for a chance to come back. They are also cruel and brave and crazy with conviction. They live large and die violent, self-pitying deaths.

The Futility Closet
The Futility Closet is one of the most oddball and interesting blogs I have found, self-described as "An idler's miscellany of compendious amusements." I can't really describe it -- You'll have to go and see for yourselves. The term Cabinet of Curiosities is the best fit I have found for it.

Very Cool: Laser REAR Sights
REAR SIGHT LASER RL-1
Introducing the Rear Sight Laser (RSL) – A ground-breaking new laser design incorporated into the rear sight. Compact size and revolutionary performance make the new RSL the most extraordinary system LaserLyte has ever produced. Easy-to-install and easy-to-operate, the new RSL offers a high-power laser with the benefit of not having to replace existing grips, internal stock parts or holsters.
The activation switch is a strategically placed button at the back of the slide that is easily activated by the thumb in a normal shooting position for left- or right-handed shooters. First press of the activation switch produces the constant on mode, second press produces pulse mode, and third press deactivates the laser. A small LED on the back of the laser indicates if the laser is on and what mode it is in.
The RSL fits all Glock® pistols and is constructed from MIM 4650, nickel enriched high carbon steel, the same material used for most heavy-duty gun parts such as iron sights, hammers and levers. It is also black oxide, bead blasted for a non-reflective finish. When mounted onto the pistol the RSL will fit all Level 1 and 2 holsters. Powered by four 377 batteries, commonly used in watches. LaserLyte also offers discounted batteries. Rear Sight Lasers for additional pistol models will be introduced later this year.
