SCCC has members in all fifty states and the District of Columbia.

The National Association for Gun Rights, often referred to as "NAGR", was founded to assist the growing movement of pro-Second Amendment organizations, especially state-level gun rights groups. NAGR's strategy is simple: make the enemies of our firearms freedoms pay for every inch. While many so-called "gun rights groups" work to curry favor with politicians and the media, NAGR is working aggressively to hold politicians accountable and to put a stop to gun control. They maintain a blog almost daily.

Gun Owners of America
(GOA) is a non-profit lobbying organization formed in 1975 to preserve and defend the Second Amendment rights of gun owners. GOA sees firearms ownership as a freedom issue. GOA was founded in 1975 by Sen. H.L. (Bill) Richardson (now retired). Richardson continues to serve as the Chairman of Gun Owners of America, bringing his many years of political experience to the leadership of GOA. Richardson is also an avid hunter and outdoorsman.
The GOA Board of Directors brings over 100 years of combined knowledge and experience on guns, legislation and politics. GOA's Board is not satisfied with the "status quo." Americans have lost some of our precious gun rights and WE WANT THEM BACK! This is why GOA is considered the "no compromise" gun lobby. From state legislatures and city councils to the United States Congress and the White House, GOA represents the views of gun owners whenever their rights are threatened.

The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) is dedicated to promoting a better understanding about our Constitutional heritage to privately own and possess firearms. To that end, we carry on many educational and legal action programs designed to better inform the public about the gun control debate.

Pro-gun Women on Full Auto

AFA has taken a NO-COMPROMISE position by calling for the repeal of ALL gun laws back to and including NFA 34. AFA is serious about restoring our Rights as originally intended by our Founding Documents. If you're looking for a women's organization to exchange cooking recipes, talk about child rearing or stitchery, then this is not the place for you.

Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership
Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership mission is to destroy "gun control" and to encourage Americans to understand and defend all of the Bill of Rights for everyone. Those are the twin goals of Wisconsin-based Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership (JPFO). Founded by Jews and initially aimed at educating the Jewish community about the historical evils that Jews have suffered when they have been disarmed, JPFO has always welcomed persons of all religious beliefs who share a common goal of opposing and reversing victim disarmament policies while advancing liberty for all.

Neal Knox's Page

Neal Knox entered the firearms journalism trade in 1966, when he became the founding editor of Gun Week, a weekly newspaper covering firearms issues of the day. The paper gave in-depth coverage to the bill that would eventually become the Gun Control Act of 1968. Knox left Gun Week in 1968 when he moved to Wolfe Publishing as editor of Handloader Magazine, and founding editor of Rifle Magazine.

In 1978 Knox moved to Washington D.C. in order to lobby against gun control measures, and work for the National Rifle Association. He would go on to serve four years as the Executive Director of the Institute for Legislative Action, which is the lobbying arm of the NRA. At NRA, Knox was instrumental in convincing friendly lawmakers to introduce a reform of the 1968 Gun Control Act. The bill became the Firearm Owners Protection Act, which eventually passed in 1986.

From 1984 until his death, Knox was the chairman of the Firearms Coalition, an organization that he created, which lobbies against restrictive gun laws.

Second Amendment Sisters

The SECOND AMENDMENT SISTERS, Inc. came about when a group of women decided they had enough: Enough of the distortion, enough of the misrepresentation, enough of the reproach from the anti-Second Amendment crowd. Learning of the Million Mom March (currently the Bell Campaign, now merging with Handgun Control, Inc.) was the last straw.

Citizen's Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms

We're willing to comment on our critics' views and positions, fill in reporters on the facts about the gun lobby and the issue of gun control, those who'd like to take a swipe at us and the Second Amendment. So when you think of the gun lobby, think of us. And when you think First Amendment, call us, too. We're rabid on the rights of gun owners to speak their piece.

Doctors for Sensible Gun Laws mission is to educate our fellow doctors and their patients, the public, about gun laws that are counterproductive and the deceitful tactics of those who advocate gun control. We offer a healthy dose of common sense to the national gun debate by shedding light on what gun laws are sensible, and which ones most certainly are not.

CATO Institute - CCW Laws and the Crime Rate
: 31 States now have laws allowing individuals to carry concealed handguns. In the most careful scientific study of such laws yet done, which will be published in the Journal of Law and Economics in January, John Lott finds that concealed-carry laws deter violent crimes and produce no increase in accidental deaths. In an advance look at his findings, he argued at this forum that if more states had such laws, thousands of murders could be prevented.

NRA-ILA: Truthing Gun Control Laws

Let me start this out with a solid truth: If you say your gun rights are important and you do not belong to the NRA, you are a hypocrite. For all its faults, the NRA is still the most important ally we have, and it is a safe bet that without its efforts you'd have less freedom than you have today.

The NRA has been involved in this battle since its founding in 1871.

If you want to fact-check some of the gun-grab emails going around, the NRA-ILA site is the place to check them out. It is the Snopes of gun legalities. When restrictive “gun control” legislation is proposed at the local, state or federal level, NRA members and supporters are alerted and respond with individual letters, faxes, e-mails and calls to their elected representatives to make their views known.

The Institute is involved in any issue that directly or indirectly affects firearms ownership and use. These involve such topics as hunting and access to hunting lands, wilderness and wildlife conservation, civilian marksmanship training and ranges for public use, law enforcement-related issues, product liability, trapping, crime victim rights and criminal justice reform.

Military Grade Outdoor Gear

Two modern businesses that predate the Internet have sites and offer a broad selection of outdoor gear are Brigade Quartermaster and U.S. Cavalry.

Over 30 years ago Brigade Quartermaster began as a small business from a farm in Powder Springs Georgia selling one product, the Woolly Pully sweater. It began with one product and a desire to provide the best outdoor gear and clothing to individuals and professionals around the world. Today, it offers more than 25,000 products from a 50,000 square foot warehouse and mails over 1,000,000 catalogs each year.
  • In our 30 years of service, we have provided military, professional and outdoor gear and clothing to consumers, resale, government, and institutional customer segments through retail, direct mail (catalog), e-commerce, AAFES, and contract sales.

U. S. Cavalry's first retail store outside Ft. Knox, Kentucky, was the first military supplier to focus on outfitting the individual soldier. Surplus stores were just about everywhere, but only U.S. Cavalry focused on new equipment and customized services. it featured on-site computerized embroidery in an era when even many banks were not yet computerized.

That first store was quickly followed by mail order catalogs to serve customers as they were deployed around the globe. Wherever fighting men and women were stationed, catalogs soon followed. In fact, many of today’s U.S. Cavalry staff have fond childhood memories of perusing the kiddie t-shirts, ceremonial sabers and scale-model kits featured in our early editions.
----------

The inventory ofthese two companies is impressive and covers just about anything needed for law enforcement, military, survival and general outdoor use as well as gift items:

Beretta

Berettaweb is the unofficial site for Beretta owners and collectors. It is operated by Beretta's webmaster/media operations manager. It hosts downloadable copies of the owner's manuals for most Beretta firearms, exploded views, and histories of many of the models.
----------
Beretta: This is not only the oldest firearms manufacturer in existence, it is the oldest company of any kind - dating back nearly 500 years.

Beretta is one of the world's oldest corporations, and it has been owned by the same family for some five hundred years. The Beretta company was established in 1526, when gunsmith Maestro Bartolomeo Beretta of Gardone Val Trompia (Brescia, Lombardy, Italy) was paid 296 ducats in payment for 185 arquebus barrels by the Arsenal of Venice. The bills of sale for the order of those firearms are in the firm's archives.

Already in production in the early 1500s, Beretta products were chosen by the highly discriminating Republic of Venice because of their excellence. As the Beretta name became synonymous with uncompromising quality, design, materials, construction and performance, word spread beyond the Italian borders, establishing a tradition that has carried over, uninterrupted, through fifteen generations of Berettas. The trade secrets and attention to detail Jacopo (1520/25 – ...) inherited from his father Bartolomeo were passed on to his own son Giovannino (1550 – post 1577), then to his grandson Giovan Antonio (1577 – post 1649) – on and on from one century to the next.

In the early 1800s Pietro Antonio Beretta (1791 – 1853), in spite of difficulties arising from constant wars and foreign domination, traveled throughout Italy to demonstrate the superior quality of his products and collect orders. Pietro Antonio’s son Giuseppe (1840 – 1903) continued the arduous effort begun by his father, creating new opportunities for the company through international distribution.

In the early 1900s Pietro (1870 – 1957) took the Company reins, introducing modernized manufacturing methods, many patents for mechanisms and simplified construction, consequently establishing Beretta, the first Italian firearms maker, as one of the most modern firearms production facilities in the world. The modernization process was continued by the sons Giuseppe (1906 – 1993) and Carlo (1908 – 1984), securing the Company’s multinational character with commercial and production activity in numerous European countries and the United States. These efforts created successful ventures in the military, law enforcement and private sectors.

Beretta is known for its broad range of firearms: side-by-side shotguns, over-and-under shotguns, hunting rifles, express rifles, assault rifles, submachine guns, lever and bolt-action rifles, single and double action revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. The parent company; Beretta Holding, also owns Beretta USA, Benelli, Franchi, SAKO, Stoeger, Tikka, Uberti, the Burris Optics company and a twenty per cent interest in the Browning arms company.

For the last quarter of a century, Beretta has produced the pistol adopted by our armed forces.

Reseller Ratings

Reseller Ratings is one of the first places I stop when I go shopping online.

First of all, and most importantly, it lists ratings and reviews for over 20,000 businesses and stores. When trying out a new Ebay seller or online business it pays to find out what experience other folks have had with them, and this is a good starting point.

Secondly, it offers a price comparison service, where you can enter what you want to buy and it returns a list of sellers, their prices, and their ratings.

Their ethics policy is outstanding:
Our Ethics Policy
  1. We do not remove reviews simply because we're asked to do so. Not for any amount of money or for any advertiser or sponsor, ever. There are many ratings sites out there that either delete bad reviews from paying sponsors upon request, or post paid recommendations for sponsors, and you should be aware of them. ResellerRatings does not. Reviews are only disabled if they don't comply with our published terms (for instance, if a non-customer writes a review) and even then, we contact the reviewer and ask them to bring their review into compliance where possible.
  2. We do not edit, censor, block, or moderate reviews of any retailer for any reason. If you write a review, it gets posted, subject to our terms of use policy.
  3. Creating an account at our site lets you edit your reviews later if you choose to, and lets a retailer send you a message to help you or resolve any issues you may have. It also makes it much harder for retailers to write fake reviews, and much easier to detect it when they do. We won't spam you, send you marketing emails, or sell or otherwise provide your email address to anyone.
  4. Retailers cannot opt-out from ResellerRatings. Retailers are added to our site by customers, and cannot be removed unless the retailer has zero reviews and/or is out of business.
  5. Reviews can only be written by real customers. It's FREE for retailers to flag reviews for verification (we will seek to obtain proof of the reviewer's order) or for violations in our terms of use. It's FREE for retailers to use our exit survey to solicit reviews, get email alerts of new reviews, and to post public replies in response to reviews.

CPC: TLC for Ruger Rimfires

is the place to send your Ruger 10/22 or 77/22 (or 77/22magnum, 77/17, 77/22 Hornet, Mini-14/30, or High Standard pistol) to be tuned up and turned into a tack-driver.

After gunsmithing centerfire rifles for years, CPC started gunsmithing the Ruger 10/22 in late 1994, then by customer demand added other .22 caliber firearms to its list. It was noted that most centerfire gunsmiths seemed not to take the .22 rimfire as a serious study. The 77/22 gunsmithing demand, especially in the .22 WMR, came next, with the now famous .22 K-Hornet rework following. CPC keeps some of the semi-auto centerfire skills going with the Ruger Mini 14/30 items.

The idea is to accurize firearms using skilled labor instead of crappy add on parts.
  • CPC reworks the factory trigger pull to a lightened excellent single stage trigger, removing slack and creep and adding an overtravel stop.
  • CPC sets barrels back then fits a rotating reamer pilot exactly to the individual bore diameter and hand chambers. This totally concentric chamber throat, at minimum depth, creates accuracy.
  • CPC indicates the bore within .0002", then cuts a new 11° recessed target crown sharp for more accuracy. Same with new barrels.
  • CPC reworks the bolt to eliminate flyers.
Their prices aren't cheap, but you do get what you pay for, and the two week to two month turnaround time is pretty good for a custom gunsmith.

OpenSCAD: 3D Drawing for Programmers

OpenSCAD is a very cool open source free software parametric solid 3D CAD modeller, and available for Linux/UNIX, MS Windows and Apples OS X. If you like programming and 3D drawing you should have a look at OpenSCAD since it is more like writing code than juggling triangles and vertices like in Blender or AoI. It's Solidworks for programmers. It is software for creating solid 3D CAD objects.

Unlike most free software for creating 3D models it does not focus on the artistic aspects of 3D modelling but instead on the CAD aspects. Thus it might be the application you are looking for when you are planning to create 3D models of machine parts but pretty sure is not what you are looking for when you are more interested in creating computer-animated movies.

OpenSCAD is not an interactive modeller. Instead it is something like a 3D-compiler that reads in a script file that describes the object and renders the 3D model from this script file. This gives you (the designer) full control over the modelling process and enables you to easily change any step in the modelling process or make designes that are defined by configurable parameters.

OpenSCAD provides two main modelling techniques: First there is constructive solid geometry (aka CSG) and second there is extrusion of 2D outlines. As data exchange format format for this 2D outlines Autocad DXF files are used. In addition to 2D paths for extrusion it is also possible to read design parametes from DXF files. Besides DXF files OpenSCAD can read and create 3D models in the STL and OFF file formats.

Steep learning curve? Yes. Worth it? Yes, if you do they type of 3d drawing OpenSCAD excels at.

MMHosting: To Build a Website

Having a web site can be fun, makes sense for a business, and is fairly easy to do.

First, decide on a name -- or two. Unique names are getting harder to find. Then go HERE and enter the name you want, using the .com or .biz or .org extension on it, to see if someone else is using the name.

The next step is to find a place to host your website. I would advise against your local Internet provider and would suggest not using Yahoo or a free host. I went those routes and the experience was quite forgettable.

Whoever hosts your website can register your domain name.

I did a lot of homework and went with MM Hosting's NetMega package a couple of years ago. They offer the best service I have ever seen, and at a bargain price as low as $5.95 a month. When my site crashed at nine PM on a Sunday night, I sent an email to their tech support, had a reply within half an hour, and the site was back up within another half hour. It doesn't get much better than this.

The services they offer are overkill for what I want, everything from blogs and forums and email accounts to shopping carts, but the prices are hard to beat.

I did have my site hosted by Yahoo, but it cost three times as much and the tech support was non-existent. To add insult to injury, when I switched my domain to MM Hosting, both MM and I had to jump through a time consuming and complicated series of hoops. What should have been a matter of hours took days, and the fault was with yahoo.

The next step is build your web page. MM offers a free website builder but I wanted to learn a little about the HTML language and went the expensive route with a commercial program.

MM gives you the free use of RVSiteBuilder. That site says "The tryout module is the separate application running on your own disk space. Users can try it and test it in action. If they like it, they have an option to buy any hosting account. You, as an administrator, just click a single button and all data and hosting accounts will be created for you."

Anyway, I can't speak from personal experience about the SiteBuilder, but I assume it is as good as the rest of their services, which are excellent. I also can't give any advice on design, except KISS -- Keep it simple, Stupid! Simpler is always better: forget the animations and background music.

Having some idea of what you want your site to look like before you start can help. It might be cheating a little, but if you see a website you really like you might use its basic layout as a pattern for your own.

I would recommend one of these books as a starting place.

Did I follow KISS for my own site? Nope, but this is because I like to tinker and experiment with different effects and because my web site, like my life, is a real mix of personal and business, homogenized fun, so to speak.

Bottom line: It works for the business. It tells where the store is, what my hours are, what the basic layout and policies are, and some photos give an idea of what the place looks like. I have sold a few books I listed there and gotten inquiries on other books.

It also works on the personal end, and gives me a place to express myself without the limitations of places like Facebook.

Pocket Revolvers:The Snubnose Files

The Snubnose Files and The Sight's 1911 are apparently related.

In their words:

Nobody knows who invented the snubnose revolver. That little data bit is lost in the foggy recesses of time. Some cowboy, sheriff, or bad-guy hit on the idea that if he sawed off the barrel of his revolver, it would come out of the holster a whole lot faster and maybe he'd get the first shot off. It would also be easier to conceal. So the snubnose revolver was born in a blacksmith shop whose name is forever lost. Some great ideas just happen like that, and there aren't any archetypal stories to tell about them.

We can say that it was some time in the 19th Century, most likely in the American West, but most importantly, that wherever it started and whoever had the idea aren't near as important as the fact that it's still around, still doing it's job, still trusted by more people for self defense than any other firearm design that's ever been thought of.

That's what this site is about: the snubnose revolver
