CNC Gunsmithing, in the owner's words.
My name is Justin. Some of you may know me by jwh02017. I developed this website to show gun enthusiast the different types of firearms that can be manufactured using CNC (Computerized Numerical Control) equipment. I am fortunate to have access to all kinds of CNC machines. I am a mechanical engineer, and work for my father's machine shop. Much of our work is for the aerospace industry, so quality is an utmost importance. I have carried this same quality of work to my gun hobby. I have worked as a machinist for several years now, and I don't consider myself a true gunsmith.
But I am learning more about the gunsmithing trade with every project. I started this gun hobby in the summer of 2002, after I was looking for some mods for my AR-15 that I bought earlier that summer. That was the first AR-15 that I had ever shot or owned. I've always been into guns, but it really got kick started into a hobby after this first AR-15 that I bought.
During my searching, I stumbled across the Roderus Custom Gunworks website. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the very impressive work that Pvt.Ryan had done. I then became a member of his forum where I had a wealth of information at my finger tips. I hadn't seen anybody use CNC machines to make their own firearms, so I thought it would be cool to show people what can be done with CNC equipment. For the majority of the projects you see on the website I use a Fanuc Robodrill Model T21iFL. The machine specifications are as follows: 13hp 10,000 RPM spindle; 700mm X axis by 400mm Y axis table travel; 330mm Z axis travel; 21 station tool changer; 550lb table capacity; 1.6 second tool change (chip to chip) and over 2100 IPM rapid traverse on all axis. The Fanuc Robodrill is designed for high speed production combined with extreme accuracy.
This hobby has become very addictive and I've done several projects since the first AR-15 lower receiver that I machined. I hope my website will help you get started in this hobby, if it's not your hobby already. I share all my information for free, and I hope you will do the same to help keep the gun community strong. I don't sell any 100% receivers at this time since I don't have a firearm manufacturing license. All information contained in this website is for educational purposes only.
